Pakistan commissions second Turkiye-built MILGEM corvette PNS Khaibar in Istanbul

Key facts

• Pakistan commissioned the MILGEM-class warship PNS Khaibar at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard.
• PNS Khaibar is the second of four MILGEM corvettes being constructed by Turkish state-owned defence firm ASFAT under a 2018 contract.
• The first vessel, PNS Babur, was delivered in 2023.
• The MILGEM project is Turkiye’s warship programme designed to produce multipurpose corvettes and frigates for reconnaissance, surveillance, early warning, anti-submarine warfare, surface combat, and amphibious operations.
• The commissioning ceremony was attended by Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf.
