  • The ASW SWC was accepted by Rear Admiral Gautam Marwaha, VSM, CSO (Tech), Eastern Naval Command.

  • The warship is fitted with an indigenous 30 mm Naval Surface Gun manufactured by GRSE and has nearly 88% indigenous content.

UN Human Rights Office Responds to Bangladesh Verdict, Citing Investigation Findings (Mid of November)

  • A UN-led investigation into alleged crimes found that 1,400 people – including many children – may have been killed while thousands were injured during July and August last year.

  • The move follows demands from the shipping industry to ease the procedures as Indian seafarers were facing difficulties with the existing immigration process.
  • The Home Ministry has asked the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways to direct the port authorities concerned to keep a record/data of the crew, supernumerary of the Indian flag coastal run vessels.

  • The methodology involves three phases: Phase 1 includes beat guards conducting carnivore sign surveys, prey counts, and vegetation/human pressure assessments; Phase 2 is handled by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, using satellite images and remotely sensed information; and Phase 3 utilizes camera trapping in four square kilometre grids to identify individual tigers by their stripe patterns.
  • The 2022 cycle used more than 40,000 camera traps, earning India a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest camera trap wildlife survey.
  • Cubs are deliberately not counted in the estimation, as about fifty percent do not survive up to one year, and are only included as independent individuals after two to two-and-a-half years of age.
  • Extrapolation is used to estimate tiger numbers in similar but unsampled forests, combining Phase 1 sign and prey data with Phase 2 habitat models.

  • Gandhi Sagar wildlife sanctuary in Mandsaur district in Madhya Pradesh became the second home of cheetahs when three cheetahs, two male and one female, were shifted to the reserve forest from Kuno National Park
  • Kuno now has 25 cheetahs including nine adults (six females and one male) and 16 cubs born in the park

National Mathematics Day observed on December 22

  • In 1992, he was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor.
  • He was instrumental in the establishment of premier institutions such as the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore.
  • He also played a significant role in strengthening the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and promoting research and scientific learning.
