Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a Rs 50 crore grant for preserving the heritage of the Darrang kings of the Koch dynasty.
The grant was announced during the 516th Biswa Mahabir Chilarai Divas celebrations held at Pipora Dookan in Darrang district.
The Chief Minister directed the Darrang district administration and the Public Works Department to immediately implement the heritage preservation project.
A 37-foot-high statue of 8th century Koch king Maharaj Krishnanarayan was unveiled at the event.
Chilarai Bhawans at Mangaldoi and Golaghat were virtually inaugurated during the programme.
Land allotment and construction of an office for the All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani at Amingaon were also announced.
