Meghalaya SDG-Aligned Budget 2026–27: ₹32,023 crore outlay with 19% for infrastructure

• Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma tabled a ₹32,023 crore SDG-aligned budget for 2026–27.
• SDG 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure) received the highest allocation of ₹6,078 crore, 19% of the total outlay.
• Public works department was allocated ₹3,485 crore, up from ₹2,873 crore in 2025–26.
• Road construction and upgradation received ₹824.81 crore, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana got ₹746.67 crore, Central Road Fund ₹350 crore, and road maintenance ₹200 crore.
• Stadium infrastructure was allocated ₹400 crore.
• SDG 4 (quality education) was allocated ₹4,317 crore (13.48%), with the education and human resources department receiving ₹3,347 crore.
• SDG 3 (good health and well-being) received ₹3,616 crore (11.29%), with the health and family welfare department getting ₹2,472 crore.
• SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities) was allocated ₹2,834 crore.
• SDG 1 (no poverty) received ₹2,330 crore and SDG 2 (zero hunger) ₹2,270 crore, including ₹150 crore for supplementary nutrition.
• SDG 7 (energy) got ₹1,296 crore, SDG 6 (water and sanitation) ₹1,366 crore, and climate action ₹593 crore.
• 80% of the total outlay is directly linked to specific SDG targets and 20% supports enabling and institutional functions.
• Meghalaya’s SDG Index score improved from 60 in 2020–21 to 63 in 2023–24, while its national ranking slipped from 22nd to 25th.
