IIT Madras introduces OmegaBall in India

Key facts

• Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) introduced OmegaBall in India.
• The inter-college OmegaBall tournament was organised by the Institute Gymkhana and the Office of the Dean (Students) on April 17, 2026.
• The tournament was held at the IIT Madras campus football field.
• OmegaBall is a football variation played by three teams on a circular field with three goalposts, where each team attacks two goals and defends one.
• Participating institutions included Loyola College of Engineering and Technology, Guru Nanak College of Arts and Science, Dr Ambedkar Law University, The New College, Nazareth College of Arts and Science, Saveetha University, YMCA College of Physical Education, and IIT Madras student teams.
• IIT Madras plans to establish an IIT Madras OmegaBall Club at the national level to promote the sport.
• The sport is played in the United States, Brazil, and parts of Europe.
