India launches Nyaya Setu AI chatbot to democratise access to justice

• Nyaya Setu, a voice-first multilingual AI legal assistant, was unveiled by the Vice-President of India, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, at the DISHA programme in Vigyan Bhawan.
• The chatbot was developed by the Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
• Nyaya Setu integrates Automatic Speech Recognition, Multilingual Natural Language Processing, and Conversational AI aligned with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
• The platform supports 36 text languages and 23 voice languages, including tribal dialects, and processes over 15 million daily AI inferences.
• Its mascot ‘Dishika’ guides users through legal queries with simplified explanations and interactive engagement.
• BHASHINI’s Shrutlekh system demonstrated real-time transcription and multilingual translation of speeches during the launch event.
