Key facts

The Union government notified the creation of the South Coast Railway (SCoR) zone with headquarters at Visakhapatnam, effective from June 1, 2026.
The new zone has been established under sub-section (4) of Section 3 of the Railways Act, 1989, by carving it out of the East Coast Railway (ECoR) and South Central Railway (SCR).
SCoR will comprise the Guntakal, Guntur, and Vijayawada divisions of the SCR and a truncated Waltair division, which will be renamed the Visakhapatnam division.
A new Rayagada division will be constituted under the ECoR, which is headquartered at Bhubaneswar, effective from June 1, 2026.
The SCR, headquartered at Secunderabad, will retain the Hyderabad and Nanded divisions along with a reorganised Secunderabad division.
