Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Inaugurates India’s First Integrated CCUS Field Laboratory at IIT Bombay

• Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated India’s first Integrated Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) Field Laboratory Facility under Bharat Innovates 2026 at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) on 12th May 2026.
• The facility is the first pilot-scale platform in India to integrate Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) with Geological CO2 Sequestration (GCS) specifically in basalt formations.
• The project includes India’s first pilot-scale scientific drilling initiative to assess CO2 storage potential in the Deccan Traps and serves as a national testbed for scalable carbon management technologies.
• The indigenous technology uses non-potable water to capture emissions from the air and industries, converting them into industrial-grade carbonate and bicarbonate salts.
• The CCUS technology is being scaled up by UrjanovaC, a deep-tech venture founded by Prof. Vikram Vishal and Prof. Arnab Dutta and incubated at the Society for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (SINE), IIT Bombay.
