Admiral Krishna Swaminathan assumed charge as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of the Indian Navy on May 31, 2026.
He succeeded Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who retired after completing his tenure as Navy chief.
Admiral Swaminathan was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1987, and is a specialist in Communication and Electronic Warfare.
He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, the Joint Services Command and Staff College, the College of Naval Warfare, and the United States Naval War College.
His command experience includes the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya and leadership of the Western Fleet, and he later served as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command before becoming CNS.
