Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV) achieves 4 Kelvin milestone for indigenous quantum hardware

Key facts

• The Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV) successfully reached a temperature of 4 Kelvin (-269°C) using a dilution refrigerator at the Quantum Reference Facility in Medha Towers, Andhra Pradesh.
• The project was initiated following a September 2025 assessment presented to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Information Technology (IT) minister Nara Lokesh, indicating that 85% of quantum computing components could be developed indigenously.
• In April 2026, the AQV partnered with Qbit Force and Qubitech to establish India’s first Quantum Reference Facilities at Medha Towers and SRM University for advanced hardware testing.
• The 4 Kelvin environment enables the characterisation of superconducting devices, quantum sensors, cryogenic electronics, single-photon detectors, microwave systems, quantum communication components, and advanced quantum materials.
• According to the Amaravati Quantum Mission (AQM), the facility will continue cooling towards ultra-low millikelvin temperatures to facilitate the development of advanced superconducting quantum processors.
