Australia and Canada signed a $2.5 billion deal for Canada to acquire an over-the-horizon radar system, marking Australia's most valuable defence export ever.
The radar system is modelled on Australia's Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN), which has provided 3,000 km of surveillance coverage for 40 years.
Canada will use the radar to monitor the Arctic, and the project will be built by BAE Systems, which also maintains Australia's JORN.
Canada has provisioned $6.5 billion in total for the project and will consider expanding the network in the future.
Canada's secretary for defence procurement, Stephen Fuhr, also inspected Australia's Ghost Bat uncrewed aircraft, which has a range of about 3,700 km and can carry weapons.
