The Ministry of Coal (MoC) is providing ₹1,350 crore support under its coal gasification incentive scheme for the Lakhanpur coal-to-ammonium nitrate project.
The government has approved coal gasification incentive schemes with a cumulative outlay of up to ₹46,000 crore to promote surface coal and lignite gasification projects.
The project is being developed by Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited (BCGCL), a joint venture between Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Coal India Limited (CIL).
The project will produce 2,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate per day using indigenously developed coal gasification technology from BHEL.
The initiative is expected to catalyse investments of ₹2.5-3 lakh crore and generate around 50,000 direct and indirect jobs across 25 projects in coal-bearing regions.
