Odisha Development Projects Worth Over ₹47,600 Crore Launched

Key facts

• President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly unveiled development projects worth more than ₹47,600 crore in Odisha to enhance energy security and infrastructure.
• The foundation stone was laid for the Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited (BCGCL) project at Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda and a 300-tonne-per-day municipal solid waste-based compressed biogas plant in Bhubaneswar.
• Energy sector initiatives include the 600-MW Upper Indravati pumped storage project and the Stage-II expansion of the IB Thermal Power Station featuring two 660-MW units.
• Railway and transport infrastructure includes two multi-tracking projects worth over ₹732 crore, the four-laning of the Nuapada-Ghatipada section of NH-353, 24 Atal bus stands, and nine automated testing stations.
• Social and educational projects inaugurated include a 300-bed district headquarters hospital at Boudh, an Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) regional centre, a tribal research centre, and the Kusumi Smart Irrigation Project.
• Connectivity projects include a bridge over the Kathajodi river connecting Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the Nayagarh town bypass on NH-57, and the widening of the Dhalpur-Harbhanga road in Boudh district.
