Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML) signs MoU with R2E Greentech for Li-Ion battery recycling

• The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with New Delhi-based M/s R2E Greentech Pvt Ltd.
• The agreement is for the transfer and commercialisation of an indigenous technology developed for the recycling of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries.
• The technology developed by CSIR-NML enables the recovery of lithium, cobalt, manganese, nickel, copper, aluminium, and graphite from spent batteries.
• These recovered materials are critical for battery manufacturing, electric vehicles, electronics, energy storage, and clean energy applications.
• The initiative aims to strengthen India's circular economy and resource security by providing secondary resources for strategic metals like lithium and cobalt, which are currently largely imported.
