India to commission three indigenously built naval ships in Kolkata

Key facts

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will commission three indigenously built naval ships—Dunagiri, Sanshodhak, and Agray—at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata.
• The vessels were designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau and constructed by the Kolkata-based Defence Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd.
• Dunagiri is a Project 17A stealth frigate equipped with BrahMos surface-to-surface missiles and a medium-range surface-to-air missile system.
• Sanshodhak is a survey vessel designed for coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys and the collection of oceanographic and geophysical data.
• Agray is an Arnala-class anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft equipped with lightweight torpedoes, indigenous rocket launchers, and shallow-water sonar systems.
• These platforms have indigenous content exceeding 75 per cent, with participation from more than 200 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
