Indian Army clears MEPRO X6 telescopic sights for NEGEV guns, BEL to lead indigenous production

Key facts

• The Indian Army has cleared the Israeli-origin MEPRO X6 telescopic sight for its in-service NEGEV light machine guns after operational and environmental trials.
• The programme will be executed through Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), with sights manufactured in India under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement between Meprolight and RRP Defense.
• The MEPRO X6 is a fixed 6x-magnification telescopic sight designed for assault rifles and light machine guns, offering improved target identification, wider field of view, and enhanced engagement at longer distances.
• The sight will be deployed on the Army’s NEGEV 7.62 mm light machine guns, for which the Army earlier contracted 41,000 units from Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), with production in India through PLR Systems.
• Meprolight Senior Vice-President Golan Kalimi described the Army’s decision as a major milestone, and the programme brings together two systems under Israel’s SK Group: NEGEV by IWI and MEPRO X6 by Meprolight.
