Key facts
- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully conducted a hot test of the Semi-Cryogenic Engine Power Head Test Article (PHTA) on June 24 at the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu.
- The PHTA was tested at a thrust level of 175 tonnes, representing 88 per cent of its design capacity, with main turbopumps delivering outlet pressures of 400 bar and 500 bar.
- This was the eighth hot test in a series, following previous tests conducted at thrust levels of 94 tonnes (47 per cent) and 120 tonnes (60 per cent).
- The Semi-Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (SC120), powered by the 2000 kN-class SE2000 engine, is being developed to replace the L110 core stage of the LVM3 launch vehicle.
- The semi-cryogenic propulsion system utilizes Liquid Oxygen (LOX) and purified kerosene as propellants to enhance the payload capability and operational efficiency of the LVM3.
