IOC proposes revamped host selection process for Olympic Games

Key facts

• The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) has proposed a new Strategic Dialogue stage to shortlist interested parties for hosting the Olympic Games.
• India is currently in the Continuous Dialogue stage for the 2036 Olympics after submitting its Letter of Intent in 2024, with Ahmedabad as the proposed host city.
• The new host selection procedure and Olympic programme review methodology will be proposed at the 146th IOC Session on June 24 and 25 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
• The proposed reforms are part of the 'Fit for the Future' process and were based on analysis by the Olympic Programme Working Group (OPWG) and the Future Host Commission for the Games.
• If approved, the new methodology will first apply to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games and all subsequent editions.
