Jal Sanrakshit Haryana Project Approved with ₹4,000 Crore World Bank Loan

Key facts

• Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced the Jal Sanrakshit Haryana project, which has received a ₹4,000 crore loan from the World Bank (WB) out of a total project cost of ₹5,714 crore.
• The project will be implemented in phases between 2026 and 2032, covering 15 clusters spread across 48.94 lakh acres to make the state water-secure and self-reliant.
• The initiative includes the rehabilitation of 678 canals, with 106 restored via WB assistance at ₹2,484.87 crore, 293 through state funding at ₹2,230 crore, and 279 under National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) supported projects.
• The programme will rehabilitate 620 water channels, upgrade 120 micro-irrigation projects, reclaim 2 lakh acres of waterlogged land, and promote Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) on 5 lakh acres.
• Groundwater recharge will be strengthened through 147 water bodies in Bhiwani, Jind, Kaithal, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Charkhi Dadri, and Sirsa, while treated wastewater from Jind, Kaithal, and Dhanwapur in Gurugram will be reused for irrigation.
