• The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is developing a three-year anti-drug action plan to achieve the national goal of a drug-free India by 2047.
• The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has identified nearly 150 key overseas players pumping narcotics into India and will prioritise deportation over extradition for these fugitives.
• The plan proposes the establishment of nearly 300 special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) courts based on the workload trend of drug-related cases.
• By December 2026, every State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) will establish a separate vertical to track the drug mafia, marking a first in the history of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
• Each Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) will prepare dossiers on the top 15 drug lords in their State or Union Territory by the end of 2026, aiming to apprehend them by December 2029.
