Namo Cities: ₹5,000 Crore Central Assistance for 4 Greenfield Cities in NCR

Key facts

• The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) announced the development of four greenfield "Namo Cities" (Namo Nodes) in the National Capital Region (NCR), with one city each in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
• The project will be implemented with central assistance of ₹5,000 crore over a period of five years.
• The decision was taken by the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) under the Regional Plan 2041, while the existing NCR area of 55,083 sq km will remain unchanged.
• Uttar Pradesh has proposed Noida, Dadri, Jewar, and Bulandshahr as potential candidates for the development of its greenfield city.
• The NCRPB decided to divide the NCR into four zones: Delhi, Central NCR (extending 5-km beyond Eastern and Western Expressways), highway corridor zone, and transit oriented development.
