P L Gautam named Chair of Expert Committee on Agrobiodiversity

Key facts

• Padma Shri P L Gautam has been named as the Chair of the reconstituted Expert Committee on Agrobiodiversity under the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA).
• The committee has been reconstituted for a period of one year under Section 13(1) of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002.
• The Chairperson of the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority (PPVFRA) will serve as the Co-Chair of the committee.
• The committee comprises representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), National Bureaus of Plant, Animal and Fish Genetic Resources, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, National Innovation Foundation, and NALSAR University of Law.
• The committee will support India's updated National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) Targets 4 and 13, and contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2, 13, and 15.
