Key facts
- The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) released a mother sanction of ₹10,021.42 crore to 12 states under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).
- The 12 recipient states are Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.
- Launched in 2016, PMAY-G aims to replace kutcha houses with pucca homes and has been extended until March 2029 to achieve the 'Housing for All' target.
- Against an overall target of 4.95 crore houses, approvals for 3.91 crore houses have been granted and construction of more than 3.05 crore houses has been completed.
- Nearly 75 per cent of the sanctioned houses under PMAY-G are registered in the name of women or under joint ownership.
