• Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 9, 2016, to provide free, quality antenatal care through specialist doctors on the ninth day of each month.
• Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda launched nationwide celebrations on June 9, 2026, under the theme “10 Years of PMSMA – A Decade of Care”.
• The Extended PMSMA (E-PMSMA) strategy was introduced in January 2022 to monitor high-risk pregnancies by tracking them individually up to 45 days after delivery.
• Since its inception, more than 7.5 crore antenatal check-ups have been conducted and nearly 1.2 crore high-risk pregnancies have been identified.
• A special ₹75 commemorative coin and a ₹5 postal stamp were released to mark the 10-year milestone of the programme.
