Election Commission (EC) adds SIR declaration to online Form 6 for new voters

• The Election Commission (EC) has introduced a new declaration in the online version of Form 6 on the ECINET portal for first-time voters and those seeking fresh enrolment in the electoral roll.
• The declaration requires applicants to disclose whether they or their parents/grandparents were part of the last Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
• Applicants must select one of three options: their own name exists in the last SIR electoral roll, the name of a parent or grandparent (father, mother, grandfather or grandmother) exists in the last SIR electoral roll, or neither exists.
• If the first two options are selected, the portal requires the Assembly constituency, polling booth number, and serial number from the previous SIR exercise.
• The declaration is visible for applicants in every state and Union Territory where the SIR concluded during 2025-26 or is currently underway, excluding Bihar and Assam.
• The ongoing SIR exercise has resulted in the deletion of over 5.58 crore names from electoral rolls across 10 states and three Union Territories since last year.
• In West Bengal, more than 27 lakh electors were removed during the adjudication process.
• Form 6 is the prescribed application for citizens seeking fresh enrolment after attaining 18 years of age, acquiring Indian citizenship, or reapplying after deletion from the electoral roll.
• Form 6 derives its legal basis from the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, framed under the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
