HAL-Safran Sign LEAP Engine Components Agreement

Key facts

• Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Safran Aircraft Engines signed a long-term agreement for the production and supply of superalloy turbine ring forgings for the CFM LEAP engine programme.
• HAL will manufacture the ring forgings at its Ring Rolling facility in Bengaluru, supporting the 'Make in India' initiative.
• The LEAP engine, a joint venture between GE and Safran, powers Airbus A320neo, Boeing 737 MAX, and COMAC C919 aircraft.
• The contract was signed at the Farnborough International Airshow on July 22, 2026.
• HAL and Safran have also established a joint venture in Bengaluru to develop the Aravalli engine for India's future 13-ton Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH).
• Bharat Forge Ltd signed an MoU with FLYING WHALES to jointly manufacture advanced airships for India's defence, based on the LCA60T heavy-lift airship platform.
