India and Indonesia sign BrahMos and ASTRA defence deals to expand bilateral ties

Key facts

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the 'Bintang Adipurna', the highest civilian honour of Indonesia.
• India and Indonesia signed agreements for the supply of BrahMos missiles and Air-to-Air Missile ASTRA systems, with the latter involving a pact between Bharat Dynamics and Republic Corps.
• An overseas campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore will be established at the Singhasari Special Economic Zone in Indonesia's East Java province.
• The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and Indonesia's National Agency of Drug and Food Control signed a pact for cooperation in medical products regulation.
• The two nations signed agreements on maritime safety and security, critical minerals and technologies for steel supply chain, disaster management, health workforce collaboration, and the conservation and restoration of Prambanan Temple.
• Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed for cooperation in telecommunications, technologies and services, agriculture, research, technology and innovation, and management and technology utilisation in elections through the Election Commissions of both nations.
• India will share solutions for its mid-day meal scheme and public distribution system with Indonesia, and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will be integrated with Indonesia's payment system.
