Indian Army to Procure 450 Indigenous Carl Gustaf Mk IV Rocket Launchers on 11 July 2026

• The Indian Army has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the procurement of 450 indigenous Carl Gustaf Mk IV multi-role rocket launchers under the Buy (Indian) category.
• The procurement is part of the Army's infantry modernisation programme and supports the Make in India initiative.
• The Carl Gustaf Mk IV is an 84 mm recoilless weapon system manufactured by Saab.
• The weapon weighs approximately 6.6-7 kg, excluding sights and accessories, and is designed for operation in high-altitude regions, deserts, forests, and urban terrain.
• The system can engage armoured vehicles, bunkers, fortified positions, buildings, enemy firing points, troop concentrations, and fire smoke and illumination rounds.
• The launchers are expected to be manufactured at Saab's upcoming facility in Jhajjar, Haryana, marking the first production site for the system outside Sweden.
• Technical requirements include a minimum barrel life of 1,500 rounds or 15 years and operational reliability in temperatures ranging from -20 degrees Celsius to +50 degrees Celsius.
• The system is compatible with existing 84 mm ammunition and modern sighting systems, including digital fire-control devices and red-dot sights.
