ISSDA and GSSE Partner to Promote Stainless Steel for India’s Clean Energy Transition

• The Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) and the Global Stainless Steel Expo (GSSE) have entered a strategic partnership to promote stainless steel for India's clean energy transition.
• The partnership aims to accelerate adoption of stainless steel in green hydrogen, renewable energy, mobility, infrastructure, and industrial processing sectors.
• Stainless steel is considered the material of choice for green hydrogen, ammonia, LNG, ethanol, chemical processing, and renewable energy infrastructure due to its corrosion resistance, durability, and long service life.
• The partnership calls for a National Stainless Steel Policy to support domestic manufacturing and enhance India's competitiveness in global clean energy supply chains.
• India's stainless steel market is projected to reach USD 15.8 billion (approximately ₹1.36 lakh crore) by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.1%.
• India has an installed stainless steel production capacity of 7.5 million tonnes, but capacity utilisation is only 60–65%, while imports (largely from China) account for 25–28% of domestic demand.
