India to host 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Gurugram on June 25-26

• India will host the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Gurugram, Haryana, on June 25-26 under its BRICS Chairship 2026.
• The meeting is guided by the theme Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS), with the Energy Track theme being सर्वेषां ऊर्जम् (Energy for All).
• The BRICS group now comprises 11 member nations, representing nearly half of the world population and around 40 per cent of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
• India has structured the BRICS Energy Agenda around three key priorities: energy security and sustainability, energy access and equity, and technology and innovation.
• India has achieved a more than 50-fold increase in solar power capacity over the past decade and deployed over 60 million smart meters.
• The government has set a target of 410 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2032, expanded its transmission network, and accelerated Green Energy Corridors.
• India has implemented the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and promoted regional grid connectivity through One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG).
• In the biofuels sector, India has achieved 20 per cent ethanol blending and introduced E85 fuel to diversify the energy mix and reduce emissions.
• India advocates for global clean energy cooperation through the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA).
• Ahead of the ministerial meeting, three virtual meetings of senior officials and two seminars on artificial intelligence and carbon capture technologies were conducted.
