Natural History Museum of Mizoram University designated as India's 21st Biodiversity Repository on June 19

• The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) notified the Natural History Museum (NHM) of Mizoram University, Aizawl, as a Designated Repository.
• The NHM is India's 21st Designated Repository, notified under Section 39 of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002.
• The Central Government notified the NHM as a Designated Repository on June 19, based on the recommendation of the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA).
• The NHM will maintain voucher specimens of flora, including pteridophytes and macrofungi, and fauna, including reptiles, amphibians, fishes, moths, beetles and butterflies.
• The designation advances National Biodiversity Target 4 of India's National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (2024-2030) and Target 4 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
