The Union government extended the tenure of Ravi Agrawal as the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) by six months until December 2026.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the reappointment of the 1988-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer on a contract basis with effect from 1 July 2026.
Ravi Agrawal was initially appointed as the chief of the CBDT, the policy-making body for the Income Tax Department, for a one-year term in June 2024.
The officer's tenure was previously extended by a year in June 2025 prior to the current six-month extension.
