Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) to Celebrate 111th Foundation Day

Key facts

• The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) will celebrate its 111th Foundation Day on 30 June 2026, featuring the inauguration of the Animal Taxonomic Summit–2026 by Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikary at the Dhano Dhanyo Auditorium.
• ZSI conducted a 111-hour hackathon on traditional knowledge in biodiversity conservation involving 16 regional centres, with the grand finale scheduled for 29 June 2026.
• The organisation will launch the PaleoIndia Portal, developed jointly with the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), Chennai, and unveil Version 3.0 of the Fauna of India Checklist.
• Publications to be released include Animal Discoveries–2025, Plant Discoveries–2025, Abstract Book: Animal Taxonomy Summit 2026, Records of the ZSI (Special Issue: ATS 2026), Fauna of West Bengal, Jeev Darpan, Faunal Diversity of Dry Deciduous Forests of West Bengal, and Faunal Diversity of Protected Areas of West Bengal covering Bethuadahari, Bibhutibhushan, Ramnabagan, Ballavpur, and Raiganj Wildlife Sanctuaries.
• ZSI will formalise Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Centre for Marine Living Resources and Ecology (CMLRE), Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, and Kalyani University, West Bengal.
