The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the establishment of a bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the Cabinet decision on X and said the move would improve access to justice for people in remote and far-flung areas of Ladakh.
The new bench is expected to reduce the time and long journeys required for residents of Ladakh, as the High Court currently has principal seats only at Srinagar and Jammu.
Ladakh became a separate Union Territory in 2019 following the reorganisation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
