The Department of Health Research-Indian Council of Medical Research (DHR-ICMR) launched the second edition of S.H.I.N.E. 2026, a nationwide school outreach initiative.
S.H.I.N.E. stands for Science, Health and Innovation for NextGen Explorers.
The event is being held on August 11–12, 2026 across 83 ICMR institutes, Model Rural Health Research Units (MRHRUs), and affiliated field centres.
About 30,000 students from Grades 9 to 12 are participating from metro, Tier-2, and rural regions.
The programme includes guided laboratory visits, live scientific demonstrations, interactive poster walks, video exhibits, and scientist mentorship sessions.
Laboratory visits cover research areas such as epidemiology, vector-borne diseases, virology, nutrition, and non-communicable diseases.
The initiative is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision encouraging youth to spend one day as a scientist.
S.H.I.N.E. 2026 is aligned with India's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision of self-reliance in science, medicine, and healthcare technology.
