FAO-WFP Hunger Hotspots Report 2026 Flags 13 Countries and Territories for Acute Food Insecurity

• The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) jointly prepared the UN Hunger Hotspots Report for June to November 2026.
• The report identified 13 countries and territories as hunger hotspots for the June-November 2026 outlook.
• Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen, Palestine, Northeast Nigeria, and Somalia were placed in the 'Highest Concern' category.
• Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Haiti were placed in the 'Very High Concern' category.
• Myanmar, Mali, Lebanon, and Madagascar were listed as other hotspots.
• In Sudan, around 19.5 million people, about 41% of the population, faced high levels of acute food insecurity through May 2026.
• In South Sudan, about 7.8 million people, 55% of the population, were projected to face Crisis or worse acute food insecurity between April and July 2026.
• In Yemen, an estimated 18.3 million people were projected to face Crisis or worse acute food insecurity in 2026.
• In the Gaza Strip, around 1.6 million people, 77% of the analysed population, were acutely food insecure, with more than 500,000 in Emergency conditions.
• Around 15,000 people in Northeast Nigeria were projected to face Catastrophe-level food insecurity between June and August 2026.
• Conflict, climate shocks, economic instability, and displacement were identified as major drivers of hunger.
