India Expands E-Visa Scheme: 11 New Ports Added, Total Entry Points Rise to 88

• The Ministry of Home Affairs notified 11 additional international ports for e-visa entry, including 9 land ports and 2 airports.
• The two newly added airports are Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.
• The new land ports include Attari (Punjab), Gede, Ghojanga, Jaigaon (West Bengal), Darranga (Assam), Agartala (Tripura), Moreh (Manipur), and Haridaspur (Odisha).
• The total number of e-visa entry points in India has risen to 88, comprising 37 airports, 38 seaports, and 13 land ports.
• E-visas currently constitute 78% of the total visas issued in India.
• The e-visa facility, introduced in 2014 with 43 eligible countries, is now available to nationals of 172 countries.
• E-visa is issued under 17 sub-categories, including tourist, business, medical, student, transit, and mountaineering visas.
