India Launches Second Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel 'Shruti' at GRSE Kolkata on 11 August 2026

• Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) launched Shruti, the second Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV), at its Kolkata facility on 11 August 2026.
• The vessel, designated as Yard 3037, was formally launched by Mrs Manika Sadhu, wife of Vice Admiral Sanjay Sadhu, Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition.
• GRSE is constructing four NGOPVs as part of the Indian Navy's wider 11-ship programme, with construction undertaken concurrently at GRSE Kolkata and Goa Shipyard Limited.
• The first NGOPV, Sanghmitra, was launched from GRSE on 20 May 2026.
• The remaining two NGOPVs from GRSE are expected to be launched by the end of the current financial year.
• Shruti is approximately 113 metres in length and 14.6 metres in width, with a displacement of around 3,000 tonnes.
• The vessel can reach speeds up to 23 knots and has an endurance of 8,500 nautical miles while cruising at 14 knots.
• The indigenously designed NGOPVs are meant for maritime surveillance, search and rescue, protection of offshore assets, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and anti-piracy missions.
