India’s Steel Consumption Rises 7.9% in April-July 2026

Key facts

• The Ministry of Steel recorded a 7.9% year-on-year increase in finished steel consumption to 56 MT in April-July 2026, compared with 51.9 MT in the same period last year.
• Crude steel production rose 2.4% to 56.2 MT during April-July 2026 from 54.9 MT a year earlier.
• Finished steel production grew 4.7% to 54.7 MT in April-July 2026 from 52.2 MT in the corresponding period last year.
• In July 2026, finished steel consumption stood at 14.4 MT, up 6.8% from 13.5 MT in July 2025.
• Finished steel imports rose 36.6% year-on-year to 2.77 million tonnes, while exports increased 35% to 2.29 million tonnes during April-July 2026.
• The average price of 10 mm TMT bars was Rs 58,003 per tonne in August 2026, up 5.8% year-on-year.
• Alloy steel production increased 26.7% to 3.71 MT during April-July 2026, while its consumption rose 22.1% to 4.02 MT.
