The Maharashtra government began disbursing the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar loan waiver with ₹5,027 crore released into 6.2 lakh farmer accounts through direct benefit transfer.
The loan waiver was declared by the state on June 2 and covers short-term crop loans of up to ₹2 lakh taken between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2025.
The scheme has three components: a debt waiver, one-time settlement, and incentive benefits for farmers who regularly service their loans.
The estimated total beneficiaries of the loan waiver are 54.6 lakh farmers.
In the first phase, the loan waiver is being rolled out, while incentive benefits will be provided in the second phase.
