Tamil Nadu announced the 'Vetri Vaanmagal' scheme to train women farmers in drone operation.
The scheme was announced in the state's first agriculture budget by Agriculture Minister R Vinoth.
A total of 500 eligible persons, including 100 women, will receive drone operator training and a drone pilot licence through the Remote Pilot Training Organization of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.
The state government allocated Rs 1.50 crore for training and Rs 2.50 crore for providing drones at 50 per cent subsidy to 50 trained women.
The scheme aims to ease fertiliser and pesticide spraying, crop monitoring, and address labour shortages in agriculture.
