India's Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Lays Foundation for Rs 472 Crore T-72 and T-90 Tank Overhaul Facility in Jabalpur on August 27, 2026

• Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the T-Series Tanks Overhaul Project at Vehicle Factory, Jabalpur, on August 27, 2026.
• The Rs 472 crore project will create overhauling facilities for T-72 and T-90 tanks at Vehicle Factory Jabalpur, a unit of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL).
• The new facility is envisaged to overhaul 80 tanks annually, while the Indian Army requires around 230 tank overhauls each year.
• Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi, currently has the capacity to overhaul 150 tanks annually and has supplied around 4,400 tanks to the Indian Army over the past four decades.
• The overhauling facilities are expected to generate demand for mechanical, electrical, electronic and hydraulic components, creating opportunities for MSMEs.
• Rajnath Singh said modern warfare demands combined capabilities, and tanks need to be equipped with superior sensors aligned with modern battlefield requirements.
• AVNL has 25 years of experience in overhauling T-72 and T-90 variant tanks.
• Rajnath Singh noted that India's defence production rose to around Rs 1.80 lakh crore in FY 2025-26 from Rs 46,000 crore in 2014, and defence exports reached approximately Rs 39,000 crore.
