NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL) partners with Uzbekistan's National Interbank Processing Centre (NIPC) to enable UPI payments via UZQR

  • NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL) and Uzbekistan's National Interbank Processing Centre (NIPC) have entered a commercial partnership to enable UPI payments across Uzbekistan through the UZQR interoperable QR network.
  • The partnership allows Indian travellers to use UPI-enabled apps to scan UZQR codes and make instant payments to merchants across Uzbekistan.
  • UPI is India's real-time payments platform that connects hundreds of Indian banks through a single interface and processes more than 18 billion transactions each month in India.
  • The deal received regulatory clearances from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, which designated HUMO as NIPL's authorised partner for cross-border merchant acceptance.
  • UPI is currently accepted in ten countries, including Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Greece.

Semicon 2.0 Notified with ₹1.27 Lakh Crore Outlay

  • The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) notified Semicon 2.0, a ₹1.27 lakh crore scheme to expand India's semiconductor ecosystem.

  • On August 28, 2026, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) signed an MoU to facilitate demand aggregation and deploy smart domestic PNG meters across the city gas distribution (CGD) sector.
  • The MoU aims to develop a structured ecosystem for accelerated adoption of smart domestic PNG meters by bringing together CGD entities, technology providers, manufacturers, system integrators and other stakeholders.
  • Under the MoU, PNGRB will share information on standards, certification, regulatory developments, conformity assessment and inspection in smart domestic PNG metering, and facilitate stakeholder consultations.
  • EESL will undertake demand aggregation, coordination among CGD entities, market assessments, technical evaluations, competitive procurement, price discovery, and suitable models for supply, installation, operation and maintenance.

Indian Railways Approves ₹170 Crore for Kavach 4.0

  • The Ministry of Railways approved the deployment of Kavach Version 4.0 on 712 route kilometres of Moradabad Division in Northern Railway at a total cost of ₹170 crore.
  • Kavach is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system designed to improve operational safety.
  • Kavach helps prevent Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD), automatically applies brakes when required, regulates train speed in critical situations, and reduces the risk of collisions.
  • As of July 31, 2026, Indian Railways had commissioned Kavach Version 4.0 across 2,633 route kilometres.
  • Trackside Kavach implementation has been taken up across 21,794 route kilometres, covering the Golden Quadrilateral, Golden Diagonal, High Density Network and other identified sections.
