Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order 2026 Mandates Transition from LPG to PNG

• The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) issued the Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order, 2026, prohibiting households from simultaneously holding Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections.
• A 90-day compliance window was initiated in March 2026, requiring LPG consumers in areas with existing pipeline infrastructure to transition to PNG by the June 30 deadline.
• Failure to surrender LPG connections in PNG-available areas may lead to the suspension of gas supply from providers including Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).
• Ministry data indicates that 10.02 lakh PNG connections have been gasified since March 2026, with infrastructure created for a total of 13.24 lakh connections and 9.94 lakh new registrations recorded.
• Exemptions are granted to localities without PNG networks, while premises with technical constraints must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the City Gas Distribution (CGD) company to maintain LPG services.
