President Droupadi Murmu Confers Padma Awards 2026

Key facts

• President Droupadi Murmu presented the Padma awards to 65 eminent personalities during the second civil investiture ceremony held on 23 June 2026 at the Gantantra Madap of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
• Former Supreme Court (SC) judge KT Thomas and eminent Malayalam journalist P Narayanan were conferred with the Padma Vibhushan for public affairs and literature and education, respectively.
• The Padma Bhushan was awarded to actor Mammootty, playback singer Alka Yagnik, tennis player Vijay Amritraj, American oncologist Dattatreyudu Nori, industrialist SKM Maeilanandhan, and social worker Vellappally Natesan.
• Rupi Soren received the Padma Bhushan on behalf of her late husband and JMM founder Shibu Soren during the ceremony.
• The government announced a total of 131 Padma awards for 2026, including five Padma Vibhushan awards, on the eve of Republic Day.
