- NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL) and Uzbekistan's National Interbank Processing Centre (NIPC) have entered a commercial partnership to enable UPI payments across Uzbekistan through the UZQR interoperable QR network.
- The partnership allows Indian travellers to use UPI-enabled apps to scan UZQR codes and make instant payments to merchants across Uzbekistan.
- UPI is India's real-time payments platform that connects hundreds of Indian banks through a single interface and processes more than 18 billion transactions each month in India.
- The deal received regulatory clearances from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, which designated HUMO as NIPL's authorised partner for cross-border merchant acceptance.
