- Bihar and Jharkhand signed an MoU on August 31, 2026, in Delhi for sharing Sone River water.
- The MoU allocates 5.75 million acre-feet (MAF) of Sone River water to Bihar and 2 MAF to Jharkhand.
- The agreement resolves the dispute over sharing 7.75 MAF of Sone water allocated to undivided Bihar under the 1973 Bansagar Agreement.
- The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah and Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil.
- The agreement will provide irrigation water to farmers and drinking water to populations in districts such as Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Arwal, Gaya and Patna in Bihar, and Palamu, Garhwa and other areas in Jharkhand.
