  • Tata Steel has commissioned India's first coke oven gas (COG) injection project at its Meramandali steel plant in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, announced on September 10, 2026.
  • The project uses cleaned COG, which contains over 55 per cent hydrogen, as a reductant and partial substitute for fossil fuels in blast-furnace ironmaking, injected through tuyeres.
  • The implementation was carried out with technology partner Paul Wurth-SMS and equipment supplier Kobelco.
