• The 5th edition of Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar (SSSS) was launched by Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh as a nationwide people's movement for ocean conservation.
• The initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and inspired by the Swachh Bharat vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
• The week-long celebration is scheduled from September 12 to 19, 2026, featuring beach clean-up drives across 100+ locations, human chain, cycling rallies, and marathons.
• The first-ever national Ocean Olympiad will be launched to foster environmental awareness among students and youth.
• The minister unveiled a dedicated ocean conservation pledge, the SSSS v5.0 website, and the SAGAR PRAHARI mobile app for citizen participation.
• The campaign is inspired by the Deep Ocean Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
