Government constitutes 6 Sector-Specific Working Groups to Identify 100 Products for Domestic Manufacturing

• The Government of India has constituted six sector-specific working groups to identify 100 products for promoting domestic manufacturing and reducing import dependence.
• These groups will be chaired by the Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and are required to submit their final list to the cabinet secretariat within three weeks.
• The six groups cover pharmaceuticals, biotech, and medical devices; chemicals, petrochemicals, textiles, and footwear; capital goods, automotive, electric vehicles, and advanced capital goods; energy; construction equipment and infrastructure; and defence, aerospace, and electronics.
• Members of these groups include representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, DPIIT, Niti Aayog, and the departments of Economic Affairs, Science and Technology, Heavy Industry, and New and Renewable Energy.
• The initiative aims to reduce the outflow of foreign exchange and address the import bill, which reached USD 775 billion in 2025-26, with major imports including electronic goods at USD 116.2 billion and machinery at USD 61.73 billion.
